Joe Gittleman is best known as the
bass guitar player forThe Mighty Mighty Bosstones , earning him the nickname "the Bass Fiddleman." Gittleman originally played guitar in the Bosstones, but he switched roles with former Bosstone Nate Albert when he realized he had a better bass than guitar. He has also played bass inGang Green and sang in and produced records for his bandAvoid One Thing . Both Avoid One Thing and The Mighty Mighty Bosstones have been on periods of hiatus recently.He provided background vocals for the
Street Dogs ' 2005 album "Back to the World" as well as the more recent "Fading American Dream ". In addition, Mr. Gittleman producedThe Briggs ' new album "Back to Higher Ground " as well as theFlogging Molly film "Whiskey on a Sunday ",Big D and the Kids Table 's CD "Strictly Rude " and Chuck Ragan's CD "Los Feliz". Mr. Gittleman has also written songs for bands such asMxPx ("Heard That Sound") and has seen Avoid One Thing covered byThe Bouncing Souls ("Lean on Sheena"). Since 2005, Gittleman has been a full-time staff producer and A+R for the Los-Angeles-based independent labelSide One Dummy Records . Gittleman was born in
Cambridge, Massachusetts . While inItaly in 1993 withThe Mighty Mighty Bosstones , Gittleman was stabbed just below the lung by an Albanian bootlegger, documented in the song "The Pirate Ship" on the vinyl release of Question The Answers.
