1999 to decide the "world champion" ofAmerican football .Italy hosted the 1999 Cup andGermany hosted the 2003 Cup.Japan won both titles. TheUnited States did not compete in the first two World Cups. The competition is run by the IFAF and it consists of a qualification round and a final tournament. In 2007, the 3rd American Football World Cup took place in Kawasaki,Japan . In 2007, the total number of teams in the competition exceeded 20 countries as, besides the six nations that qualified for the final tournament, five teams competed in direct qualification games. In Europe, the continental federationEFAF also used its European Championships as one qualifier.Past Cups
