Thos Foley

Thos Foley (born 09 November, 1979) from Kenmare in County Kerry, Ireland, is a men's slalom skier. He currently lives and trains in the village of Verbier in Switzerland.

He represented Ireland in the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin, Italy in the Men's Giant Slalom events, placing 31st among 80 entrants.

His first international race was a downhill at the '99 British Championships which were held in France, due to there being no suitable venue available in Great Britain.

His best result was in 2004 when he finished in 2nd place at the Scottish Championships Giant Slalom in Meribel, France.

Trivia

* He was coached as a teenager by Ian and Jane McGarry at their ski school in Châtel, France. They gave Thos a scholarship and encouraged him to try racing.
* In December 2000, Foley represented his county in the 24-hour ski marathon race in Aspen, Colorado and finished in a very impressive fifth place, ahead of more accomplished and experienced competitors from Italy, New Zealand and the United States.
* While at school Thos played on the Kenmare Gaelic football under age teams before turning his attention to skiing.
