Mendota is an unincorporated community in Washington County in the southwestern part of the U.S. state of Virginia. Elevation approx 1800 ft. It is part of the Kingsport–Bristol (TN)–Bristol (VA) Metropolitan Statistical Area, which is a component of the Johnson City–Kingsport–Bristol, TN-VA Combined Statistical Area – commonly known as the "Tri-Cities" region.
The name Mendota is native American for "bend in the river". Located at the foothills of the Clinch Mountains on the N. Fork of the Holston river at a location known as "Horshoe Bend," where you can float downstream for several hours and take out at a location that is only a few hundred feet from where you put in. The nearest major city is Bristol.
