Rowanduz

The town Rawanduz (Kurdish: "Rwandiz") is located in the sub-district of Soran, in the Kurdistan Regional Government Iraq close to the Iranian border.

The name of the city derives from "Rawend diz" which means "castle of Rawends". The name Rawend was spelled as "Orontes" in hellenic sources.The population of the city is Kurdish. .

As of July 2007, Rawanduz is undergoing major re-construction. The bazaar will be relocated to make room for a new road.

Pank Resort is newly opened and offers families a place to go to relax and have fun. A Ferris wheel and other rides, including a toboggan ride down a deep gully on rail, offers a thrilling time.

Rawanduz was in the past a center of Kurdish resistance against Iraqi Government!
