Shane Cullinan

Shane Cullinan is a composer and arranger whose work ranges from compositions for TV and film to orchestral pieces and opera.

Born in 1975, Cullinan has worked independently as a composer and arranger since graduating from Nottingham Trent University.

He worked for several string quartets in North America while studying at Princeton, New Jersey. He has also written for the annual NOW! live art festival and EXPO new works.

His film credits include the music to "Insight In Mind", "The Nuclear Train" and "The Silent Train", all for Channel 4. His short opera "Tacitly, Type, Tabes" has been performed at The Bonnington gallery, Nottingham.

His oratorical works have been performed at Castlegate Hall in Nottingham, Manchester Town Hall and the Union Chapel in Islington, north London. His most recent oratorical work, "The Pieta", had its world premiere in Covent Garden, London in March 2006, featuring actor Frances Barber as the narrator.

He is composer and songwriter for the 20-strong Cullinan Ensemble and the smaller ensemble, Tonic Fold.

The text and score to his work The Magpie was the inspiration behind the play, "Dirty Pretty Secrets", which premiered at the Edinburgh Fringe festival in 2004. His score to Channel 4’s "Insight In Mind", a short film about mental illness, was screened at the National Film Theatre, London, in 2003.
