The city has an estimated population of 181,560 and a density of 8,873.90 persons per km² as of January, 2007. The total area is 20.46 km².

The biggest employer in the area is Bridgestone, the tyre company. There are several quaint restaurants and bars (izakaya).

Kodaira station is the most recognized train station serving the area, however there are several other train stations in Kodaira. They are mostly operated by the private company Seibu Railway.

The city was founded on October 1, 1962.

Universities

Tsuda College, Kaetsu University, Musashino Art University, Korea University, and parts of Hitotsubashi University, Waseda University (The oldest University in Japan) and an associated dormitory are located in this city.

Primary and secondary schools

Kodaira operates public elementary and junior high schools.
