Tendring district ofEssex . It lies 3 km northeast ofWivenhoe and 6 km east ofColchester . It is on theA133 road which until a few years ago was the main road to Clacton, Frinton andHarwich . TheA120 road constructed to bypass Colchester and Elmstead Market has reduced the volume of through traffic considerably.The Six Bumps just behind the cricket ground is a favourite of youths in the village to practice their tricks. Often a place where swing ropes are set up, it is the focal point of enjoyment in the village.=]
Elmstead is a hub of activity in terms of commerce, with many shops in its history ranging from the notorious Flair Hair, Betta Aquatics, Spar, The Post Office, and also has a few average eating places; The Kings Arms Pub, and Mikes Golden Fish Dish, regularly voted as one of the best chip shops in Essex. Elmstead also holds a petrol station, car display place, insurance place and two schools.
