Tony D and Papi Show

Tony D and Papi Show

The Tony D and Papi Show is a sports radio program in Colorado Springs, Colorado aired on KKML (1300 AM). It is the only live and local radio show in Colorado Springs, and has taken home 4 different "Best Of" awards from the local newspaper. A hit in such a short period of time, the Tony D and Papi show takes a unique look at the world of sports and attracts a bevy of listeners and callers (who are then given their own independent monikers for later call-ins, providing a community feel between listeners).

Originally started in November 2004, it began solely with one host- Tony Desiere - as the Tony D Show. Then, in January 2005, Tony D welcomed his new co-host to the studio: former stand-up comic Papi Sorrelis.

Both the guys offer their unique perspectives on sports, which makes the show both informal and humorous.

The 4 hour long sports radio show aired from 6-10 AM, offering plenty of time for heavy-duty sports talk.

In 2005, the show won Gold Medals as Best Talk Show and Best Radio Hosts in Colorado Springs from "The Independent". Tony D repeated as Gold winner in both of those categories.

UPDATE: Papi has since left the show and Tony is holding the mic on his own.

On March 6, 2006, the morning show went to afternoons, where Tony D held the 3-7pm shift. On January 1, 2007, KKML became an ESPN affiliate and was renamed, ESPN 1300 The Sports Animal. The afternoon drive show was shortened one hour, airing from 4-7 pm.
