HSBC Bank Middle East Limited is the largest and most widely represented international bank in the Middle East. HSBC was voted Best Wealth Management Initiative in the GCC for its HSBC Premier service by readers of "The Banker Middle East" magazine.

History

A principal member of the HSBC Group since 1959, the bank's unique relationship with the Middle East dates back more than a century. Founded in London in 1889, it pioneered banking in the region and for decades was the only bank committed to supporting the area. When it was established in 1889 with a royal charter from Queen Victoria, and a concession from the government of Persia, it was named Imperial Bank of Persia, making it the state bank of Persia. It was later named The British Bank of the Middle East (BBME) and now called HSBC Bank Middle East.Today HSBC Bank Middle East provides a wide range of banking services for both corporate and personal customers in Bahrain, Jordan, Lebanon, Oman, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates. Ironically, the bank is not represented in Iran, which tightly regulates its banking sector.

Middle East banking

HSBC Bank Middle East maintains a network of offices in various countries in the Middle East. Operations of the group in the Middle East are under this subsidiary, and it forms the regional headquarters the area, making it is responsible for the management of the group's stake in British Arab Commercial Bank.

HSBC ME sees two important senior personnel changes. Niall S K Booker, moved to the company as the Dy.Chairman in May 2006. He was the CEO of HSBC in India.

About the Deputy Chairman: Niall S K Booker.Age 47. Deputy Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Middle East. Joined HSBC in 1981. Appointed a Group General Manager in January 2004.

Bahrain

The bank's network in Bahrain extends to seven locations, including an offshore banking unit. HSBC provides a range of banking services for both corporate and individual customers in Bahrain. HSBC is the largest foreign bank in Bahrain and has branches, in Manama, Seef, Adliya, Manama and Muharraq as well as a large network of ATMs at 17 different locations.

Jordan

Operations in Jordan are supported by two locations, telephone and internet banking.

Lebanon

Having entered Lebanon in 1946, HSBC has maintained its presence ever since. A network of six offices in St. Georges Bay, Dora, Ras Beirut, Verdun and Zouk, is supported by telephone and internet banking services.

Oman

In the Sultanate since 1948, it provides a range of banking services for both corporate and individual customers. Of the four locations in Oman the key locations are Bait Al Falaj and Salalah branches, along with a full service trading operation, private banking operation, and a custodial service for the Muscat Securities Market.

Qatar

HSBC provides a range of banking services for both corporate and individual customers in Qatar. HSBC is the largest foreign bank in Qatar and has six branches, in Doha, Al Sadd, West Bay, Rayyan,Grand Hamad Street and UmSaid as well as a large network of ATMs at 21 different locations.

United Arab Emirates

The United Arab Emirates represents a key part of HSBC Bank Middle East's business, with 16 branches and the firm's head office located here.

Kuwait

HSBC recently started operations in Kuwait with a capital of KD 15'000'000/-. The branch located in Kuwaiti City at the Khorafi Tower next to the Church. With the one branch policy for international banks HSBC Kuwait is offering full corporate banking, treasury services, custody, investment banking, private banking, and limited retail banking.

Pakistan

HSBC started its operations in Pakistan in 1982. Since then it has expanded to all major cities of Pakistan and operates as a full service bank. It currently has 9 offices. Three of which are located in Karachi, and one each in Lahore, Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Faisalabad, Multan, and Sialkot. HSBC's offices in Pakistan was operated by The Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation. In 2008, The Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation sold its Pakistani banking business to HSBC Bank Middle East.
