Salvadoran presidential election, 1989
- Salvadoran presidential election, 1989
A presidential election was held in El Salvador on 19 March 1989. The Salvadoran people elected a new president, together with a vice-president, for a five-year term.
Alfredo Cristiani of the ARENA party won the election. El Salvador's constitution provides for a second round runoff vote in the event that no candidate secures an absolute majority; however, Cristiani's 53.8% share of the vote meant that a second round was not necessary.
