Professor Gareth Stedman Jones (born
17 December 1942 ) is a Britishacademic and one of the UK's foremost historians.Educated at
St Paul's School andLincoln College, Oxford , where he read History, Stedman Jones went on toNuffield College, Oxford to take aDPhil .He moved to Cambridge in 1974, becoming a Fellow of King's and, in 1979, a lecturer in history. Since 1991, he has served as co-Director of the Centre for History and Economics at King's and has held the post of professor of
political science since 1997. From 1964 to 1981 he served on the Editorial Board of the "New Left Review ". He was a joint founder of the "History Workshop Journal " in 1976.Publications
