Ampelokipoi, Thessaloniki

Ampelokipoi (Greek: Αμπελόκηποι) is a suburban city in the Thessaloniki Prefecture. The municipal population is 280,959 as of 2001. It has a land area of 1.803 km² and is the first-most densely populated municipality in Greece.

Ampelokipoi is the second commercial and entertainment area of Thessaloniki after downtown. It is an overpopulated area where there are not enough facilities for young people and there are many problems in transports such all he city. Ampelokipoi is an area where the social nonorders are usual phenomenon. According to tis, in this municipality are many fanatic fan clubs of city football clubs and many hip-hop groups such Skotina Sokakia and mc MAD, mc 3A and mc Yoha.

The Major of the city is Lazaros Kirizoglou who comes after Alex Stamatoulakis. The local police station is the central police center in Western Thessaloniki.

Sports activities

The municipal sports club AO Ampelokipon has football,basketball,vollezball,swimming and athletic clubs. The local stadium was training center for Olympic Games of 2004. Now is the football court of Iraklis Ampelokipon,Borras and Asteras teams and the athletic clubs. The municipality have 8 5x5 football courts.

Education

The municipality has many problems in this sector because of the lack of school buildings and overpopulation. According to this many Albanians and gipsies study in greek schools and create problems to others.

Music

Every summer are organised many music festivals where many greek and foreign singers go. The most popular local groups is the pop grop Ditike Sinoikies and te youth hip-hop group Skotina Sokakia. Many mc battles are organised every year where the bests are mc 3A and mc MAD.Mc MAD in 2008 fucked all the Athen´s group TUS and according to rumors mc 3A won in a wonderful battle mc Sifu Versus the greek champion.
