He received a doctorate degree (Dr. rer. nat.) in 2002 from Paderborn University (Germany) and is now leading a group on the integration of artificial intelligence and operations research at IBM Research. Prior to his current appointment he was appointed Assistant Professor at Brown University (Rhode Island/USA) and Postdoctoral Scholar at Cornell University. His honors include an NSF Career Award in 2007 and two Gold Medals at the SAT Competition 2011.
