Charles Francis Walsh (October 27, 1877 – October 3, 1912) was a pioneer aviator who died in a crash in Trenton, New Jersey.
Biography
He was born in Mission Valley, California to Walter C. Walsh. He had a brother, Robert J. Walsh. The family moved to San Diego, California. Charles hitchhiked to Los Angeles in 1901 to look for work. He took classes and then got a job as a steam engineer at the California General Hospital in Los Angeles. He married Alice Connolly on September 23, 1903. In January 1904, they moved to Winslow, Arizona when Charlie was offered a job with the Union Pacific Railroad. He lost his temper as an apprentice and moved back to Los Angeles to work in an oil refinery as a field engineer in the Dominguez flatlands.
Aviation
Charles learned to fly from Lincoln Beachy. He crashed and died in 1912 and was buried in Calvary Cemetery, San Diego.
