Babu Chiri Sherpa (died
April 29 ,2001 ) was aNepal ese Sherpamountaineer . He was born in a small village of Takshindu, in the Everest region of Nepal. He began his career as a climber at the age of 16 when he procured a job as a trekking porter. Already on his first portering assignment he scaled the notorious Ambhu Labtsa pass and summitedMera Peak (6472 m) in four hours.He reached the summit of Mount Everest 10 times and once held the record for the fastest ascent to the summit, 16 hours and 56 minutes. He performed this feat in winds approaching 55 knots (about 80 mph).
Pemba Dorjie is aSherpa who currently holds the world record for the quickest climb up Mount Everest, with a total time of 8 hours and 10 minutes.In May 1999 he spent a record 21 hours on the summit without supplementary oxygen, even sleeping there.
He died in April 2001 following falling into a crevasse at camp II, on yet another attempt to climb to the summit of Everest. He has left a legacy of wanting to build schools in his local area of Nepal, as well as six daughters.
