Myers was discovered in a
nightclub byrecord producer Peter Q. Harris. She was offered arecording contract withUniversal Music and only a short time later hadsong s playing onradio stations across the world. Her biggest moment arrived in 1998, when her first single, "Kiss the Rain" entered the
UK Singles Chart and reached number 4. The single was taken from her 1997 firstalbum , "Growing, Pains ". "Kiss the Rain" was featured in the U.S. TV series "Dawson's Creek " (episode #2-02, entitled "Crossroads"); the song was also used in promotions forArcher Daniels Midland , often seen at the beginning of "The News Hour with Jim Lehrer " and commercial breaks forSunday morning talk shows . After this exposure in the U.S., it reached number 15 on theBillboard Hot 100 .The follow-up release, entitled "Tell Me," reached number 28. The dance remix of "Kiss the Rain" was the first #1 for both Myers and the remix team, Thunderpuss.
In June 2000, Myers released her second album, "Vertigo", which featured the single "Am I Here Yet? (Return to Sender)", which was only released in the United States. Vertigo's backing vocals were performed by Wendy Alane Wright and
Elisa Fiorillo . The dance remix of this single, by DJJunior Vasquez , reached #1 on the dance charts. Shortly afterwards, Myers left Universal. She is currently producing her third album, entitled "Slightly Bitter".Her most recent single, "Just Sex", was released in November 2005 with Artemis Records' "Star Struck"
compilation album .She was the closing act for the LA Gay Pride 2006, a featured act for New York City Pride 2006, as well as the
Chicago North Halsted Market Days 25th Anniversary Festival. Her song "Kiss the Rain" was used in the free-hugs video from
Lisbon .Personal life
Billie's parents separated when she was three-years-old, and she was consequently sent to live with foster parents until she was eventually returned to her father. As a young adult, Billie wished to become a lawyer. Ultimately, however, she took to nursing before settling into her career in selling insurance. Her music career started, in her words, "as a laugh...a lark." Nonetheless, she took her singing career seriously, and this helped her earn a top-10 smash with "Kiss the Rain." While she humbly hopes for global success in the industry, she is particularly proud of her English upbringing and specifically wants to make her mark in her homeland.
(The information provided above comes from a 1998 Richard Wallace article published in A-List titled, "It Started With A Kiss.")
Forthcoming material (2007-2008)
In August 2007, Myers posted previously unreleased music on her official MySpace page. Presumably, many of these songs will appear on her upcoming album (being produced by
Dee Adam ) once rumored to be titled "Swimming Lessons" but now, according to www.billiemyers.com, named "Slightly Bitter." The forthcoming record received its name as a result of Myers' emotional state while writing material for the record."Slightly Bitter" is probably the most personal collection of songs to date... Over the last three years there have been times when I felt...angry, confused, lonely, self-destructive, and of course "bitter." So that's what I wrote about." -Billie Myers
In September 2007, Myers traveled to her birthplace, England, with intentions of completing "Slightly Bitter." Myers' official website and MySpace blog posts made by Myers herself confirm titles of tracks that may surface in the near future: "Dear Heart," "Love Suicide Machine," "I Hope You're Happy Now," "Wonderful," and "Anonymous" among others.
Myers has played new material at recent live performances, and www.billiemyers.com has been revised to include clips of various tunes, both new and old. Additionally, clips from unplugged performances and poetry written by Myers are featured.
As of late-June 2008, the production status of "Slightly Bitter" is unknown. No release date has yet been announced.
