Risto Stijović

Risto Stijović (Serbian Cyrillic: Ристо Стијовић)(1894-1974) was an internationally renowned Montenegrin sculptor, considered to be one of the most original artists of his time. He was born in centre of Podgorica, in old Podgorica's family. He lived for years in Paris, where he met his wife, Jeanette. They moved to Belgrade where he died in 1974. He was buried in the Čepurci cemetery of Podgorica. Stijović's work was inspired by Montenegrin nature and culture. He is considered to be the most important Montenegrin sculptor. He is considered to be a master of scuplturing animal figures.
