Master of Tapi-Tapi

Master of Tapi-Tapi

Master of Tapi-Tapi (MOTT) is a title created by Filipino martial arts instructor Remy Presas and awarded by him to seven practitioners of his art, Modern Arnis, in December 2000. This title refers to the concept of "tapi-tapi" ("counter for counter" or "counter the counter" in Tagalog). It is most often practiced as a set of two-person stick-locking drills that Remy Presas emphasized in his last years of teaching. The practitioners who were awarded this title are Jeff Delaney, Chuck Gauss, Jim Ladis , Gaby Roloff, Randi Schea, Ken Smith, and Brian Zawilinski.

This was the last title created by Presas, and it was given to those whom he intended to lead the International Modern Arnis Federation following his demise, with Jeff Delaney and Randi Schea as co-leaders of the group. However, the MOTTs quickly split into two factions, one headed by Delaney and the other headed by Schea.

Many other titles were given out by the founder over the years, including Datu and "Punong Guro". No further awards of the title have been made, in part due to a lack of clear authority on the part of any person or group to do so.
