Fiction Plane is a rock band from England. The band is fronted by Joe Sumner, the son of musician Sting. In 2001, they recorded their first demo called "Swings and Roundabouts" under the name Santa's Boyfriend. Before signing to a major record deal, they changed their name to Fiction Plane and recorded their first major label release, "Everything Will Never Be OK", with MCA records. The album was released in 2002 in England and March 2003 in the United States with the single "Hate". Though they received positive critical acclaimFact|date=June 2007, they were dropped by MCA in 2005. Subsequently, they were picked up by Everybody's Records and released the EP "Bitter Forces and Lame Race Horses" on July 11, 2005. It was a limited-run, four-song release that the band sold while on the "Broken Music" tour with Joe Sumner's father, Sting. Fiction Plane is an anagram of 'Infant Police', although Joe Sumner maintains that this is a coincidence.

Sumner supported his father when Fiction Plane supported The Police on the North American and European legs of their 2007 Reunion Tour, as well as being the opening act at the Twickenham (London) dates, 8th and 9th September 2007. A new Fiction Plane album entitled "Left Side of the Brain" was released on Bieler Bros Records May 22, 2007. The first single "Two Sisters", has been released to select stations. They recently performed on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno and Jimmy Kimmel Live. Fiction Plane will support 311 on the 2008 Summer Unity Tour. A third album is expected to be released early in 2009.

The group has two established dedicated groups of fans, "Fiction Plane Harem" who have been supporting them since Santa's Boyfriend Days and "The Fictionaires", a mySpace based group of fans. Both fan groups have representatives at most Fiction Plane gigs.
