- Tsuen Wan New Town
Tsuen Wan New Town (zh-t|t=荃灣新市鎮) is a
new town inHong Kong . It spans overTsuen Wan ,Kwai Chung andTsing Yi Island . Traditionally, the officials of Tsuen Wan managed the area of proper Tsuen Wan, Kwai Chung, Tsing Yi Island,Ma Wan and NortheastLantau Island .In
1982 theTsuen Wan District formed underDistrict Administration Scheme . In1985 , with the explosion of population in the new town, the district spun off Kwai Chung and Tsing Yi to form a newKwai Tsing District . Thus, the new town is now under two administrative districts.Its total development area is about 24 km². The population of the new town is approximately 801,800 and reaches the planned capacity.
Although Tsuen Wan New Town belongs to
New Territories , it is also considered to be a part ofHong Kong urban area , likeHong Kong Island andKowloon . It is because the town was early developed and is not blocked byhill s ormountain s with the distace to Kowloon geographically. Also, there are no New Territories taxis providing service in Tsuen Wan New Town except atTsuen Wan Station andTsing Yi Station , unlike other new towns in New Territories. In the latest official reports, Kwai Chung New Town and Tsing Yi New Town are separated from Tsuen Wan New Town.ee also
