Ovi magazine is a multi-lingual non-profit daily publication that exists as a platform on which to exchange ideas and opinion.

Launched by Asa Butcher and Thanos Kalamidas in December 2004, Ovi (door in Finnish) is a social, political and culturally opinionated website that carries contributions in a number of different languages.

In 2006 Ovi was chosen as a Uranus.fi Success Story: "The magazine that was originally directed at frozen expats, has become quite a success both in Finland, and abroad. “A lot of people find interest in Finland” says Kalamidas. The creators also attribute Ovi's international growth to the universality within the concept of the magazine. “We take an issue in Finland and apply it globally” Kalamidas comments." [1]

Since September 4, 2006 the site has had daily updates and continues to highlight any number of global issues, including discrimination, inequality, poverty, human rights and the plight of children. In a unique position of being immigrants in Finland, Asa and Thanos have first-hand perspective of the problems and difficulties facing immigrants across the world. [2]

In January 2007, Ovi came second in Newropeans Magazine's Grands Prix 2006 awards. They were nominated as one of the three finalists in its 'Citizenship - Information' section. The awards reward people behind the democratisation of the EU. A registered jury of around 1,000 people voted online awarding Ovi 29% of the vote. [3]
