A new school was built in the 1952 following the loss of Central High School in a fire at its present location. Also in 1952, the city of Idaho Falls constructed the Civic Auditorium which adjoins Idaho Falls High School [http://www.museumofidaho.org/LocalItems/chap10.php] . The Auditorium remains to be a center for performing arts in the area.

Academics
Idaho Falls High School's Mr. James Francis, teacher of Advanced Placement European History and Advanced Placement United States History, was the recipient of the 1997 Idaho Teacher of the Year Award [http://www.sde.idaho.gov/TeacherOfTheYear/docs/HistoricalWinners.pdf] .
Advanced placement classes offered at IFHS include calculus, statistics, biology, physics, English composition, literature, European history, United States history, and government. AP chemistry was offered through the 2006-2007 school year, but was discontinued with the retirement of chemistry teacher Gary Long.
