Norwich on theA149 road .Through the 1960s Stalham suffered from a reduction of the agricultural labour force as a result of improvements in agricultural technology. Beginning in the 1970s, though, housing developments attracted people who took up residence in Stalham but worked elsewhere.
The 15th-century St. Mary's parish church has a rare 15th-century font which has survived because it was buried during the Civil War to prevent its destruction by
