East Sussex ,England . The village on theSouth Downs is located six miles (10 km) south ofLewes ; the ancient ecclesiastical parish had a coastal frontage between those ofRottingdean andPiddinghoe , now much taken up by modern housing development, particularlySaltdean , andPeacehaven , including Telscombe Cliffs, within the civil parish.In 1929 Telscombe became a
civil parish : in 1974 it became a town, with amayor . The new Civic Centre came into use in Telscombe Cliffs in 2000.The village of Telscombe, on a winding road ending in a dead end, is a small cluster of buildings around the church, dedicated to St Laurence. It is a 10th century foundation, with a 13th century font.
It also has a school, Telscombe Cliffs Primary.
The parish includes part of the
Brighton to Newhaven Cliffs Site of Special Scientific Interest . The cliffs are mainly of geological interest, containing manySantonian andCampanian fossils. The SSSI listing includes flora and fauna biological interest too.
