Paul J. Rainey Wildlife Sanctuary

The Paul J. Rainey Wildlife Sanctuary is a convert|26000|acre|km2|sing=on refuge owned by the National Audubon Society in Perry, Louisiana. Established in 1924, this Louisiana sanctuary is home to deer, muskrat, otter, geese and many other species.

In the 1950s, the Society opened the refuge for drilling. The drilling ended in 1999. The drilling yielded $25 million dollars for the NAS. The NAS came under heavy fire after declaring, despite this arrangement, that "A Refuge Is No Place for Oil Rigs!" in response to a proposal to drill in ANWR. The NAS claims the drilling was out of their control because how the mineral rights were organized at the time of the donation of the land. [ [http://prb.datalane.net/sanctuary.htm The Paul J.
