Co-ordinating Minister for National Security

Co-ordinating Minister for National Security is an appointment in the Cabinet of Singapore, currently held by Deputy Prime Minister Teo Chee Hean.

The position was created on 1 August 2003. At that time, it was called the Co-ordinating Minister for Security and Defence. The position was held by Tony Tan Keng Yam, then the Deputy Prime Minister. On 1 September 2005, Shunmugam Jayakumar took over the position that was renamed as Co-ordinating Minister for National Security.

The Co-ordinating Minister chairs an inter-ministerial committee comprising the Minister for Foreign Affairs, the Minister for Home Affairs and the Minister for Defence. Its responsibility is to oversee counter-terrorism in Singapore, by co-ordinating efforts in different government agencies. [1]
