St. Robert Catholic High School is a high school in
Thornhill, Ontario ,Canada . St. Robert CHS was opened by theYork Catholic District School Board in 1975, celebrating its 30th anniversary in 2005. It was originally intended as an elementary school, but later saw the transition to high school. St. Robert CHS is named afterSt. Robert Bellarmine . St. Robert offers special programs such as the world renownedInternational Baccalaureate program, ESL, and Aviation Technology. The enrollment averages between 1400 and 1500 students per school year.St. Robert Catholic High School also holds the reputation for being the oldest Catholic High School in
York Region , and in recent years has lost a large percentage of its student population to newer high schools with newer technology opening in the area. Thus, special programs are offered, including the aforementioned, International Baccalaureate program.Although the current school colours consist of forest green,
white , andblack , the initial school colours were orange, brown , and white.Uniform
The uniform consists of a white
golf shirt , blackdress pants , and solid black footwear for both men and women.During the winter months, students are also required have a green knit sweater or vest in their lockers. All uniform tops depict the school's crest over the student's
heart . Students may also choose to wear a special black or green crew neck "spirit" sweatshirt. The spirit sweatshirt includes the name of the sport/club they participate in, their number or instrument and the first initial of their first name followed by their full surname. All articles of clothing can be purchased at
R.J. McCarthy's , supplier of uniforms for Catholic schools in Canada. This excludes the spirit sweatshirt, which is only available through the school'sphysical education department.Students who were enrolled into the school before the 2007-2008 school year are eligible to wear the now defunct pieces of the school uniform until June 2010. These include the boy's white oxford dress shirt worn with a green patterned tie, the girl's white
blouse and green patternedkilt , and the blackpolar fleece sweatshirt worn in the winter. The dress shirt and tie combination and blouse were excluded from the school uniform due to the fact that these were commonly worn untucked and unbuttoned, thus showing an inappropriate amount of skin in the upper body area. The kilt was excluded as a result of a large amount of students wearing the kilt inapropriately short. The black sweatshirt became defunct due to the school's wish to return the green school color, as students who wore the black sweatshirt in the winter appeared to be completely dressed in black.Time Table
The school hours are 8:30am to 2:32pm, Monday to Friday.
The school also runs on a "Day 1", "Day 2" schedule. On Day 1, Students have their classes in the proper order (Period 1, Period 2, Period 3 with lunch, and Period 4). On Day 2, the last 2 periods are flipped with lunch now being in what is normally Period 4 (Period 1, Period 2, Period 4 with lunch, and Period 3).
The school year is split into two semesters in which there are four periods each. Exams run from mid-January to late-January and mid-June to late June.
