Ritu Samhaaram

Ritu Samhaaram

"Ritu Samhaaram" is a short epic in Sanskrit by Mahakavi Kalidasa. In this epic there are six chapters, each describing one season in India. It begins with the Summer season; the remaining five seasons are Rains, Autumn, The Season of Frost, Winter, and Spring.

The poem can be called "The Medley of Seasons" or "The Garland of Seasons", but not "birth and death" of seasons (as some have mistranslated the word "samhaaram" to mean "elimination").

The seasons are each described with a pair of lovers who express their relationship through the changing seasons of India.
