followed_by= Absolute Midnight is the not-yet-published third book in Clive Barker's Abarat series. According to Barker, it is to be the darkest and longest so far, though whether or not it will be longer or darker than The Eternal (Book 4) or the so far unnamed 5th book is yet to be seen.

In the previous books, Abarat and , there have been hints to suggest what might happen in Absolute Midnight, such as the Requiax, a seabed-inhabiting race unable to live under the sun. Hence: Absolute Midnight. When in total darkness, the creatures will emerge. They have been called the "enemies of love" by the Fantomaya.

In a January 2007 interview with his official site "Revelations," Clive Barker said the book could be expected in Autumn 2008. [ [http://www.clivebarker.info/intsrevel16.html The Sixteenth Revelatory Interview] ]

However, in a later interview [ [http://www.clivebarker.info/intsrevel22.html The Twenty Second Revelatory Interveiw] ] Barker said that the book could actually be expected by Spring 2009. According to him, the book is now an astonishing 1,800 pages, which he says brings him "close to the end."

He also said that the book's plot would have something to do with "the skein," which, mentioned only briefly in the other books, is a powerful thread that binds all life together in the Abarat.
