The station was launched in
1948 as CJOB-FM, an FM simulcast of CJOB [cite news | title = Local radio station prepares FM sending | pages = | publisher = Winnipeg Tribune| date =April 13 ,1948 ] . The station applied to the BBG to move its broadcast frequency from 103.1 to the current 97.5. [cite news

In the late 1980s, CKIS-FM moved to a Rock format, which was not in compliance with its license at that time.
