Jay Weatherill

Jay Weatherill, Australian politician, is the current South Australian Minister for Environment and Conservation, Minister for Early Childhood Development, Minister for Aboriginal Affairs and Reconciliation, and Minister assisting the Premier in Cabinet Business and Public Sector Management [ [http://www.ministers.sa.gov.au/ministers.php?id=11 Ministers - Premier & Ministers of South Australia ] ] . He also represents the electoral district of Cheltenham in the South Australian House of Assembly as a member of the Australian Labor Party, with a swing of 8.7% at the 2006 election to a margin of 25.4%.

Born in the western suburbs of Adelaide, Weatherill attended Henley High School. He later studied at the University of Adelaide, graduating with degrees in law and economics. With fellow Adelaide lawyer Stephen Lieschke, he established industrial law firm Lieschke Weatherill in 1995 where he practiced law until his election to Parliament at the 2002 state election in a factional preselection over the sitting 17-year Labor MP Murray De-Laine.
