- Wantage Rural District
Wantage was a
rural district ofBerkshire ,England from 1894 to 1974.It was created in 1894 as a successor to the Wantage rural
sanitary district . It was named afterWantage , which formed a separateurban district entirely surrounded by the rural district.The district was abolished in 1974 (as were all other rural districts, under the
Local Government Act 1972 ). Its area was split, with the parishes ofArdington ,Blewbury ,Childrey , Chilton,Denchworth ,East Challow , East Hanney,East Hendred ,Goosey , Grove, Harwell,Letcome Bassett ,Letcombe Regis ,Lockinge , Sparsholt, Upton,West Challow , West Hanney andWest Hendred becoming part of theVale of White Horse district inOxfordshire , and the rest becoming part of the Newbury district ofBerkshire .References
