Football Spectators Act 1989

The Football Spectators Act 1989 is an Act of the Parliament of the United Kingdom enacted in the wake of the April 1989 Hillsborough disaster and the subsequent Taylor Report, during the premiership of Margaret Thatcher. Its provisions apply primarily to football matches played in England and Wales. Amendments to the act were enacted in July 2000.

This act was brought about after the Hillsborough disaster and the Taylor report.This act relates to offences made within the ground.1. warning signs had to be put up so that fans were aware of the dangers around the stands2. if you wanted to go to an away match you needed to be part of a membership scheme which not may club’s run to date apart from Stoke City FC3. you had to give in a pass port number so you can become a member and be identified4. the Taylor report caused many clubs to build or change grounds.
