Patrick Gordon Stanton (born 13 September 1944) is a Scottish former footballer and manager. He is regarded as one of the greatest ever players in the history of Hibernian [ [http://www.hibs.co.uk/news/more.php?id=1544_0_1_0_C Hibernian Legends: Pat Stanton] , Hibs official site] .

Stanton joined Hibs from Bonnyrigg Rose Athletic in 1963 and made his debut for the club against Motherwell in October that year. He quickly established himself in the first team, playing in defence or midfield. He featured in the club's victories over Barcelona, Liverpool, Real Madrid and Sporting Clube de Portugal in the 1960s and 1970s.

Stanton captained Hibs to their 1972 League Cup win and also led them in their centenary year, but left the club in 1976 when he was transferred to Celtic in a swap deal that took Jackie McNamara to Hibs. It was at the Glasgow club that he completed his medals collection, winning the Scottish Cup and the Scottish League championship.

He got his start in management when Alex Ferguson made him his assistant at Aberdeen. After learning the ropes there he was appointed manager at Cowdenbeath, then Dunfermline Athletic, before he returned to Hibs in 1982. His spell in the manager's chair at Easter Road was not overly successful and he resigned in 1984.

Stanton now works with Hibs as a host at Easter Road on match days.

Pat will be visiting Australia as a guest of the Hibernian FC Supporters' Association (Australia Branch) in early 2009. Functions have been organised for Perth (January 31), Melbourne (February 7) and Sydney (February 14). Pat's tour follows a similar visit in 2007 by his former team-mate, Jimmy O'Rourke, which confirms the high regard that Pat and Jimmy are still held by Hibernian supporters across the globe.
