11 July 1811 inFrankfurt am Main ; died23 September 1869 inJena ) was anAustria n diplomat, philologist and specialist inAlbania n history, language and culture.In 1847, Hahn was named Austrian consul in
Ioannina . He was transferred toSyros in 1851, and from 1869 was the consul-general inAthens . He is considered the founder of Albanian studies. He assembled and published source materials on Albanian language and culture, learned theAlbanian language and demonstrated its membership in the Indo-European family of language.References
