Homosexuality and Citizenship in Florida
- Homosexuality and Citizenship in Florida
"Homosexuality and Citizenship in Florida", also known as the Purple Pamphlet, was produced in 1964 by the Florida Legislative Investigation Committee of the Florida legislature led by Senator Charley Johns. The booklet contained several pornographic images and a glossary of terminology used in the gay community. It was a product of eight years' research in universities and public schools along with the dismissals of at least 39 university employees, the plurality at the University of Florida.
Upon its publication, "Homosexuality and Citizenship in Florida" was seen as valuable for little more than titillation, and it soon found its way to New York City, where it was sold on the streets as pornography.
Johns's committee lost its funding from the legislature following the publication of the Purple Pamphlet.
