light flyweight , Sabirov was one of the best amateur boxers in the world in the 1970s. He trained at Trud Voluntary Sports Society inKrasnodar and represented it at the national level. He competed for the USSR National Team from 1978 to 1985 and became theHonoured Master of Sports of the USSR in 1980. Sabirov won the gold medal at the European championships in 1979. Two years later, he captured thebronze medal . During his career he won 160 fights out of 180.
