(George) Edward Adeane, CVO, Private Secretary to the Prince of Wales 1979 to 1985.
Adeane was born 1939, son of Michael Adeane, later
Private Secretary to the Sovereign 1953-1972. He was educated atEton College , and Magdalene College,University of Cambridge , where he graduated with an MA. He was aPage of Honour to The Queen 1954-1955.He joined the
Middle Temple in July 1962, and practised as alibel barrister 1962-1979.In 1960-1961 he was a Plebiscite Supervisor in the Southern
Cameroon .Adeane was appointed Private Secretary and
Treasurer to thePrince of Wales in May 1979. He retired on 31 March 1985. From 1981 he was also Treasurer and from 1984 also Private Secretary to the Princess of Wales. He wasEquerry to the Prince of Wales 1979-1981, and has been Extra Equerry since 1985.From 1993 he was
Trustee of theBritish Library , and trustee of theLeeds Castle Foundation 1991, and theLambeth Palace Library 1991.He has been a
company director since 1985, including ofHanson since 1992;Hambros Bank Ltd 1986 (executive director, compliance since 1991);Guardian Royal Exchange Assurance Plc 1985;English and Scottish Investors Plc 1986; andHambros Channel Islands Trust Corp Ltd .Adeane was appointed a CVO in 1985.
