After being named the High School basketball player of the year in the state of Oregon, Miles attended the
University of Kansas , where he starred at thepoint guard position for the Kansas Jayhawks men's basketball team. He helped lead the Jayhawks to two consecutiveFinal Four appearances in 2002 and 2003 and an appearance in the 2003 national championship game. He is the all-time assists leader (with 954 career assists) of both Kansas and theBig 12 Conference . He was named to the All-Big 12 Team in both 2004 and 2005.He was also named to the All-Big 12 Defensive Team 3 times and he finished his college career in 8th place in NCAA history in assists and also in 2nd place all time in Kansas history in steals.

Miles signed as an undrafted rookie
free agent with the NBA'sGolden State Warriors for the 2005-06 season, being released in January, 2006, before his contract became guaranteed. He played for theFort Worth Flyers in theNBA Development League for the remainder of that season. There, he teamed with his Kansas class of 2005 teammate,Keith Langford .In 2005, Miles played with the
New York Knicks Summer League team and in 2006 he played with theChicago Bulls Summer League team. In 2007, he played with the Summer League team of theWashington Wizards and he also played with the Summer League team of theSeattle SuperSonics in 2008, but he did not receive a contract from any of those teams.Europe
He signed for the 2006-2007 season with the French League club
Élan Béarnais Pau-Orthez , a team that played in theEuroleague that season and with PAU he won the French National Cup championship that year. He played with the Spanish League club Cajasol Sevilla in the 2007-08 season. In the 2008 off season, Miles joined one of the threeEuroleague teams from the Greek League for the 2008-09 season,Panionios BC .
