The 3rd Continental Light Dragoons also known as Baylor's Horse or Lady Washington's Horse was raised on January 1, 1777 at Morristown, New Jersey for service with the Continental Army. The regiment would see action at the Battle of Brandywine, Battle of Germantown and the Battle of Guilford Court House. The regiment was caught sleeping at farmhouses in the Baylor Massacre of September 1778, sustaining heavy losses. In 1779 the Regiment rescued James Wilson during the "Fort Wilson Riot". The regiment was merged into the 1st Continental Light Dragoons on November 2, 1782.

A member of the 3rd Continental Dragoons was Maryland Congressman Philip Stuart, [cite web|url=http://bioguide.congress.gov/scripts/biodisplay.pl?index=S001036|title=Biographical Directory of the United States Congress: Stuart, Philip (1760-1830)|accessdate=2006-11-09]
