- Wigan Rural District
Wigan was a
rural district inLancashire ,England from1894 to1974 . It consisted of six parishes nearWigan - Dalton, Haigh,Parbold ,Shevington , Worthington andWrightington .It was created by the
Local Government Act 1894 , and abolished by theLocal Government Act 1972 in 1974. Its territory was split between the new districts ofMetropolitan Borough of Wigan inGreater Manchester , andWest Lancashire , with the parishes of Haigh, Shevington, and Worthington going to the former, and the others going to the latter.References
