The first event began in
1999 and takes place in May each year. Although it is anITV production, the events are held at theBBC Television Centre . The soap operas nominated for awards are "Coronation Street ", "Doctors", "EastEnders ", "Emmerdale " and "Hollyoaks ". Now defunct soaps that were formerly nominated for awards are "Brookside ", "Crossroads", "Family Affairs " and "Night and Day".BBC soap "EastEnders" currently hold the record for the most amount of awards won with a total of fifty four awards, six of which were the 'Best Soap' title. "Coronation Street" is still somewhat in its trail with forty-five awards and four 'Best Soap' titles.
