In 2006, The "National Law Journal" again named Kaye Scholer to its list of elite litigation defense firms. Founded as in 1917 in
New Yorkby Benjamin Kaye and Jacob Scholer. Scholer was a graduate of New York Law School. Kaye was a banking lawyer and noted playwright. The firm was known as Kaye, Scholer, Fierman, Hays and Handler for many years. It was one of the first firms to make inroads with the Orthodox Jewish community in New York. By virtue of its origins as a "Jewish firm" [For a discussion of the historic role of religion in hiring practices in law firms, see white shoe firm.] the firm built a successful real estate practice advising Olympia & York, the developers of Canary Wharf. Kaye Scholer opened a small office in
West Palm Beachin 1997 where it focuses on real estateand estate planninglaw.
