Format
Each week all the celebrities perform a dance routine with a professional skating partner. The judges (commonly known as the Ice Panel) rate the performance using the ice dancing judging system, each giving a score of between 0.0 and 6.0. The scores create a leaderboard which forms 50% of the final version, the other half of it comes from the public vote.
Once the scores and votes are combined to form the final leaderboard for that week's show, the two couples at the bottom compete in a final showdown known as the "Skate Off", where they perform their routine again. Once both couples have performed their routines for the judging panel, the five judges decide on who deserves to stay and cast their votes, based on their second performance. The couple with the most votes from the judges receives a place in the following week's show, while the couple with the least votes leaves the competition.

Due to the nature of dancing on ice the male personalities are thought to be at a severe disadvantage due the requirement that they perform dangerous manouveres with the female professionals. Whereas the male professionals are trained to control such situations, their male personality counterparts are not. Many serious accidents have resulted from personalities accidentally dropping their female partners due their lack of experience and many are concerned that with the bar being raised in each series, serious injury could result.
