Cincinnati Reds in 1959 and went on to help them win theNational League Pennant during his rookie season in 1961.He was voted to three
National League All-Star teams in 1963, 1964 and 1965.He won the
National League Gold Glove Award at Catcher in 1963 and 1964.On February 8, 1968 Edwards was traded to the St. Louis Cardinals for
Pat Corrales andJimy Williams . That year, asTim McCarver 's backup, he caught 54 games, one of which wasRay Washburn 'sno-hitter (September 18 ). During his one season with the Cardinals in 1968 he helped them to win theNational League Pennant.On October 11, 1968 he was traded with minor league player Tommy Smith to the Houston Astros for Dave Giusti and Dave Adlesh.
