WBKB-TV, channel 11, is the CBS-affiliated television station for Northeast Michigan. Owned by Maryland businessman Stephan Marks, the station has studios on North Bagley Street in Alpena, with transmission facilities located near Hubbard Lake in Alcona County. It is the only commercial television station in the market.

Syndicated programming on the station includes:"Live with Regis and Kelly", "Ellen", "Dr. Phil", "Jeopardy!", and "Wheel of Fortune".

History

The station first went on the air on September 22, 1975 and has always been a CBS affiliate. The Alpena DMA only consists of Alpena and Alcona Counties and is the third smallest (#208) media market in the United States. WBKB also serves portions of the Traverse City / Cadillac (northern Michigan) and Bay City / Saginaw / Midland / Flint (Mid-Michigan) markets.

Stephan Marks also owns two stations in Marquette: WBKP and WBUP. In addition to the Michigan stations, Marks also owns KYUS in Miles City, Montana and KXGN-TV in Glendive, Montana. The WBKB call letters originally belonged from 1946 to 1953 to channel 4 in Chicago. It was owned by the Balaban and Katz Broadcasting subsidiary of Paramount Pictures that is now CBS affiliate WBBM-TV on channel 2. WBKB then transferred to Chicago's ABC owned and operated channel 7 from 1953 to 1968 when it was renamed WLS-TV.
