The station first went on the air on
September 22 ,1975 and has always been a CBS affiliate. The Alpena DMA only consists of Alpena and Alcona Counties and is the third smallest (#208) media market in theUnited States . WBKB also serves portions of the Traverse City / Cadillac (northern Michigan) and Bay City / Saginaw / Midland / Flint (Mid-Michigan) markets.Stephan Marks also owns two stations in Marquette:
WBKP andWBUP . In addition to the Michigan stations, Marks also owns KYUS inMiles City, Montana andKXGN-TV inGlendive, Montana . The WBKB call letters originally belonged from1946 to1953 to channel 4 inChicago . It was owned by the Balaban and Katz Broadcasting subsidiary ofParamount Pictures that is now CBS affiliateWBBM-TV on channel 2.
