Blackwatertown ( _ga. An Port Mór) is a small
village on the border of Counties Tyrone and Armagh,Northern Ireland , nearDungannon . It is found on the River Blackwater, which divides Armagh and Tyrone. It had a population of 399 people in the 2001 Census. It is situated within theArmagh City and District Council area.It contains two churches, one
Roman Catholic and one Methodist which is also attended by people living in the nearby village ofBenburb . The River Blackwater entersLough Neagh west of Derrywarragh Island and is navigable fromMaghery to Blackwatertown. Blackwatertown had three schools - Blackwatertown Boys' PS and Blackwatertown Girls' PS both managed by the Roman Catholic church and Blackwatertown Primary managed by Blackwatertown Methodist Church and attended by pupils of several denominations. As the non-Roman Catholic population dwindled Blackwatertown Primary School ceased to be viable and closed. The other two schools amalgamated and formed a new school known as
