- Robert Calderbank
A. Robert Calderbank is a professor of
Electrical Engineering ,Mathematics and Applied and Computational Mathematics atPrinceton University . He received aBSc degree fromUniversity of Warwick in 1975, anMSc degree fromUniversity of Oxford in 1976, England, and aPhD degree from theCalifornia Institute of Technology , all in mathematics. He became a member of the technical staff atBell Labs in 1980. Over the next 23 yeaqrs, he rose through the ranks, eventually becomingvice president forresearch andInternet and network systems atAT&T Labs . In 2003, he retired from hisAT&T Labs position to joinPrinceton University .He has made numerous contributions to the fields of coding and
information theory , and he is a two-time winner of the IEEE Information Theory Prize Paper award. While atBell Labs , he was part of a team which discovered space–time coding. He was elected to the US National Academy of Engineering in 2005.He is married to
