Canon John Neale Dalton KCVO CMG (
24 September 1839 Margate, Kent –28 July 1931 ) was a chaplain to Queen Victoria and tutor to KingGeorge V of the United Kingdom .Dalton was the son of Reverend John Neale Dalton and Elisa Maria Allies. He attended Blackheath School in
Kent andClare College, Cambridge .Dalton became
Curate of Sandringham and a Canon ofSt. George's Chapel, Windsor .In 1869 he became tutor to the royal princes, George and his elder brother,
Prince Albert Victor, Duke of Clarence .He was invested as a Companion,
Order of St Michael and St George (CMG) in 1881 and Knight Commander,Royal Victorian Order (KCVO) in 1911.In 1920 he was awarded anHonorary Doctorate of Laws (LLD) by theUniversity of Leeds .Publications
Dalton was an
antiquarian and liturgicalscholar . He published various books including:
